5.364 concert

Friday 11/29/2024

Took the standard walk. Practiced some music. Passed the time until 4pm when I set out for the city. Walk (0.7 miles per google maps) to the train station. Ride to the City. Took a Waymo to SFJazz. This worked slick. The car arrived in 6 minutes. Three young men got out laughing about what an experience that was. After they were out and closed the doors, the car displayed my initials, DC, on the dome light on top of the roof. I couldn’t figure out what to do next, the door handles were recessed and I couldn’t see how to open them. One of the young men said, “You unlock it with the app,” and I looked down at my phone and there’s a button, “Unlock door” right there. Tap that, the door handle pushes out for me tograb. I thank the dude and got in, and off we went.

The car obeyed all the laws, stopped at stop signs and signals, it recognized pedestrians in crosswalks, signalled all its turns. Smooth ride right to the door, both trips.

Of course now I was an hour and a half before the concert. But I went down the block and had dinner in the Japanese Ramen house. Then sat in the SFJazz lobby until 7:30.

Then the concert, “Mark Hummel’s Blues Blowout”. Hummel plays harmonica, and he has assembled a band of excellent old time blues players. Tonight he had a couple of guest singers, both of whom got very comfortable on stage and kept going and going. I’m saying to myself, come on, that was your big finale, say “thank you and good night… what? another number? oh well…” They ran past two hours, with the result that the Waymo couldn’t get me to the station in time for the 9:55 train, so I had to take the 10:25, arriving Palo Alto 11:13, and here I am blogging at 11:50. And I walked 4.6 miles today
